Matthew J. Mesnik

Matthew J. Mesnik received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Mr. Mesnik received his Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law, where he graduated in the top one third of his class and received recognition by the Pro Bono Honor’s Society for his volunteer work outside of school. Throughout law school Mr. Mesnik worked with the Family Law Facilitator’s office to provide free assistance to unrepresented parties in family law cases. He helped with child custody modification, child support modification, department of child support services cases, spousal support, judgment set-asides and general dissolution matters.

Mr. Mesnik volunteered with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s alternative dispute resolution division helping parties mediate their employment disputes. Mr. Mesnik has also mediated many small claims cases at the North County Small Claims Court in Vista, California, as well as volunteered at the Juvenile detention facility to mediate disputes between detainees.

Before moving to San Diego for law school Mr. Mesnik lived in Las Vegas, Nevada and worked for the MGM Mirage Corporation in the Information Technology field for seven years. Mr. Mesnik held positions in customer service, program support, and management.

Mr. Mesnik remains active in the legal community. He has spoken at the California Western School of Law clinical internship orientation, and new student orientation. Mr. Mesnik also has volunteered as a judge for the University of San Diego School of Law Moot Court national competition. Mr. Mesnik enjoys the outdoors and is an avid cyclist, hiker, and backpacker.

Mr. Mesnik regularly handles all types of issues and cases in family law matters.  Mr. Mesnik recently represented a Mother who was successful in obtaining spousal support, child support, and attorney’s fees against a military service member who refused to support his family while deployed.  Mr. Mesnik recently helped a military service member negotiate an out-of-court settlement for child visitation and child support with an uncooperative mother.  In another recent case, Mr. Mesnik was successful in obtaining increased child support orders and attorneys fees against a father who was self-employed and attempting to claim a much lower income in an attempt to reduce his child support obligation. Mr. Mesnik also helped reunite a father with his son in when the mother refused to allow the father to have any contact with his son and obtained court orders for regular visitation.
